A tradition is something that is needed and used. A tradition is only as good as the people who practice it. The cause of traditions is never in the tradition itself but always in people. And because of that, traditions can take on entertaining, instructive, frightening, exuberant, and thoughtful forms. Currently, and more and more often, traditions are becoming political arguments, even weapons. In some places, they are cause for dispute and gender discussions. The lecture by the folklorist, philosopher, costume historian, author, and curator Elsbeth Wallnöfer will focus on the charm, history, and people's desire for traditions.
