The evening marks the beginning of the three-day event series born from the cultural exchange between South Tyrol and Vorarlberg. In the picturesque courtyard of Thalerplatz, the performances of four artists from both regions take place. Matthias Schönweger with "HEIMAT-TÖNE ...", Sophie Lazari with "Bath of the Goddess", and Bianca Lugmayr and Alex Kranabetter with "Sewing Trumpet – Visual Audio Tracks". The evening concludes with a DJ set by DJ Teatime.
Matthias Schönweger is considered one of the most versatile artists in the South Tyrolean scene. He is a writer, visual artist, performer, and more. In his playful and scholarly approach to language and objects, he creates works of various kinds. Characteristic of Schönweger is his irony, which he brilliantly turns grotesque in his works, declaring even the worst kitsch as artwork. He reflects on historical events from the past and present and generates numerous subtle still lifes in/with words and images.
Sophie Lazari is someone who communicates through art. Her work focuses on social, political, and cultural phenomena, which she translates into a colorful mix of patterns and forms, creating tools for enlightenment and information dissemination. The diversity of her work is as fluid as her essence: between graphic design, illustration, painting, tattoos, and performance, she finds ways to express herself. As part of the cultural exchange, she presents a performance on the theme of "Selfcare," celebrating the female body and its existence.
Artist Bianca Lugmayr engages intensively with language, materiality, and abstraction in her work. Her signature is the fast, freely stitched line, representing liberation from perfectionism, raw beauty, and the value of mistakes. In her graphic text works, the act of making itself reinforces the power of the needle of the sewing machine perforating the fabric, the force of repetitively written words. The line and textile grid remain as common elements and artistic tools. An extension of her oeuvre is the auditory and visual performance with sounds of the sewing machine and trumpet, which she developed together with musician and composer Alex Kranabetter. He pushes the boundaries of conventional trumpet playing to create music between free improvisation and electroacoustic sound art.
DJ TEATIME, also known as Eleonora zu Brandis, is a passionate music lover who has been DJing since 2003. She was part of the Vienna DJ and promoter crew The Loud Minority. DJ TEATIME's versatility comes from a wide range of musical genres. She skillfully mixes jazz, hip-hop, pop, disco, house, and electronic music to adapt to any mood or occasion sensitively.
Curated by Bella Angora and Hannes Egger.
